    Sitting on Daddy's lap.

    Revelations 3:15-22
"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."

The thing that hit me was the last bit: "To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne,"
Guys, do you know what that means?
If we stick through life, and continually stretch to reach God and grow our relationship with Him,
we get to sit on his lap in Heaven!
    How cool is that??
I challenge you to work at your faith.
    Stretch yourself.
Work to grow your relationship with him.
Then, he won't spit you out,
and you'll get to sit with him in heaven.

    Round and Round and Round......

This is something I wrote at the end of Janruary...

Full of expectation and high hopes, we start the year off with a bang.
New sofa, new friends, new school-just think of all the opportunity!
But after a while, the scratchy wool, drama and homework get to us, and we focus on our circumstances which changes opportunity to drudgery.

Stuck in life's "Sick Cycle Carousel" (in the words of Lifehouse's song of that name) we beg to get off. Yet the carousel man smiles and says in a re-assuring voice, "Just hold on, it'll be alright! trust me!" At first this makes us scream even louder. Angry that the carousel man would dare defy the customer's wishes. But after 5 rounds on the carousel our voices are hoarse and he keeps saying the same thing: "Hold on. Trust Me. Look around-it isn't as scary as you thought! Trust me."

Finally we decide to trust him. We take our eyes off the whirling ride for a moment and see to our amazement a beautiful nature park outside of the carousel. We feel more comfortable and free by shifting our perspective.

Suddenly it is not a "Sick Cycle Carousel" anymore. Yes, you get a little dizzy, and sore from sitting on that peeling painted pinto, but there's a beautiful park to look at, and a smiling, gentle carousel operator who knows what he's talking about.

Explanation to the analogy: Jesus is the Carousel man, and the carousel is our life.
we get sick of life sometimes because it isn't going the way we want it too. Grades don't come easily. Friends disagree. Bedrooms need to be cleaned (and, in the example of the carousel, it goes too fast, our bottoms get sore), etc, etc, etc. But, when you trust God that he is working in every circumstance for good, you can take your eyes off of your problems and enjoy the world around you to the fullest.

Scripture: check out Matt 6: 25-34 and Romans 8:28 for more about perspective and trust.

    You are a treasure!

Yesterday at church one of the little boys had a trophy. it was one of those dinky dollar store ones, but he was holding on to it like it was the best possession he owned. he was clearly proud of it. and when i asked him where he got it he said "at a birfday party i went to". his father explained it was a prize he won at a party.

did you know God thinks of you like that trophy?
and you're not a drugstore prize either. he thinks of you like pure gold. and he wants to keep you with him at all times.
    how cool!
think about it: do you believe that God loves you like a treasure? or do you think he thinks you're just another person.
the bottom line is, do you believe God or not? because it is that simple, yet so complicated. if we say yes, that means we believe he saved us and loves us, he is capable and willing to help us, and he loves us despite our faults and inconsistence. But that requires that we stop relying on our own strength, and trust God to carry the weight of our burdens. It also means we stop looking aroung at our circumstances and look up to God at all times.
It's hard, but we can do our best, and he'll supply the rest.

A Lesson from The Boy Who Lived...

There is a huge controversy about Harry Potter. I know some Christians feel convicted that they should not take part in the Harry Potter phenomenon, so if you don't want to read this devo you don't have to. because I am going to quote part of the latest book, and even though it is not a dark part, or where they say spells, it's still Harry Potter. and I am full aware that that's going to bug someone. But I believe I have a reason to post an exerpt of Harry Potter on a devotional part. I found a passage that reminded me of a Christian's relationship with God. so, pray about it. if you want to read it go ahead. God's not going to hurt you for reading this, but it's up to you.
    ***************************************************************************************
Ok this is in chapter 18. Harry is sad because he is believing the lies that Rita Skeeter (a crooked reporter) wrote about Albus Dumbledore (a good wizard, who was a mentor to Harry, and he died last year.).Harry's pretty angry because Rita wrote stories Harry never knew about Dumbledore, stories that contradict the nature of the Dumbledore he knew. Hermione (Harry's good friend) is trying to keep Harry from getting angry, and to point him to the truth.

"'Harry, I think the real reason you're so angry is that Dumbledore never told you any of this himself.'

'Maybe I am! Harry bellowed, and he flung his arms over his head, hardly knowing whether he was trying to hold in his anger or protect himself from the weight of his own disillusionment.

'look what he asked from me, Hermione! Risk your life, Harry! And again! And again! And don't expect me to explain everything, just trust me blindly, trust that I know what I'm doing, trust me even though I don't trust you! Never the whole truth! Never!’

His voice cracked with the strain, and they stood looking at each other in the whiteness and the emptiness, and Harry felt they were as insignificant as insects beneath that wide sky.

‘He loved you,’ Hermione whispered, ‘I know he loved you.’

    Harry dropped his arms.

‘I don’t know who he loved, Hermione, but it was never me. This isn’t love, look at the mess he’s left me in…

thanks for the tea. I’ll finish the watch. You get back in the warm.’

She hesitated, but recognized the dismissal. She picked up the book and then walked back past him into the tent, but as she did so, she brushed his head lightly with her hand. He closed his eyes at her touch, and he hated himself for wishing that what she said was true: that Dumbledore had really cared.”

sometimes God seems like he loves making our lives miserable. We feel like we're closer than brothers, then something happens and all of a sudden it's as if he's gone.We feel he's asked us to do something, and when we go out and do it, and it seems like he isn't there; theres so much for us to figure out on our own. Then we find out someone else is trying the same exact thing as us, and they're succedeing. or, they have all of a sudden gotten closer to God and are enjoying a rock solid relationship that never seems to wobble.
The thing is, God IS here all the time. At times he asks us to do "impossible" things-impossible in our eyes but everything is possible with him.-and we are sick of being told what to do. But, like Hermione reminded Harry, God loves us. He gave you whatever test you're going through so you would become stronger and come out better then you are now. He loves you. He really does! If you still don't believe me, if the consequences in your life are screaming that God hates you, ask him if he does. listen long and hard. Ask him for a sign. Chances are, sooner or later, he'll give you one, and chances are, he'll blow you away with the amount of love he has for you.
If you are still skeptical, comment or message me. I have been struggling for years with the concept of God loving me. and it turns out you either believe it and he does, or don't and he isn't real. because God IS love. that's who he is! you can't accept one part of Jesus and not the other! it doesn't work that way!
what it boils down to is, is God is who he says he is? or is he not?
you need to determine that for yourself.

  • are you a zombie??

*first of all i apologize for those who have subscribed to me. i haven't been keeping this site up regiularly and i aim to change that. while my devos might not be daily, i will do one once a week. i hope i can help you get closer to God by challenging you to break out of the mold our world is trying to stuff you in and live totally and fully for God.
and, if you have any prayer requests, or questions about what i wright, feel free to comment or message me. God Bless!*

    I don't want to be a zombie.
We've been home for about a month now, and my schedule is filling up. I am getting used to the rythym of this semester. I have a certain routine at school, for ballet and at home. But I realized that this could become dangerous.
When we get so used to a certain pattern in life, it gets easy to settle into it and become sort of like a zombie. wake up, go to school, come home, do homework, go to sleep, repeat. that can get so repetitive! If we get stuck in the cycle of our week, our spiritual life can become 1/2 dead, like a zombie. go to church, act happy, sing along, go home. it's so easy to sink into a comfortable costume of a happy christian, but that's not what God wants. He wants an individual who loves and obeys him, and who would do anything just to please him.

    Mark 13:33-37 says this:
"Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come.
It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay on the alert.
Therefore, be on the alert--for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning--in case he should come suddenly and find you asleep.
What I say to you I say to all, 'Be on the alert!'"

God has appointed us as Christians to carry out his will on earth, until he comes. Since he could come any minute, we need to be active in our faith, spreading the gospel and showing Christ's love to anyone (which is everyone) who needs it. We cannot fall asleep. Because we can only imagine what God, who has parted a sea, created the world, and turned a river into blood, would do if he found his servants who were supposed to be working dilligently on completing the Master's work, were asleep. We cannot allow ourselves to fall asleep.

    Wake Up!
If you are a Christian, you have a job to do. That job is to love and obey Christ. It is not to become comfortable in a cozy, sleepy christian lifestyle. It's like having your pj's on all day. they get so warm and comfortable, it's almost impossible to take them off. But when your friend comes over, you are embarrased for your laziness and rush to go change. You have got to take your pj's off and get dressed in proper attire for doing God's will. Let him use you. amazing things will happen.
